First Longboard Skate & Explore Trip: Discovering New Spots

This marks our inaugural post on the blog, detailing our recent skate and explore trip to a nearby county. I’d been eyeing these hills for some time, and with some spare funds, we finally made the trip happen. I’m incredibly stoked that we finally got to explore these locations and see what they had to offer. Needless to say, we captured some great footage and photos.

On this particular day, Kas took on driving duties while Ed handled photography and other media tasks. My role was essentially providing directions and enjoying the ride.

Our first stop was a busy bypass, a spot I’d often driven through and always imagined skating.

I estimated I could reach speeds of around 80km/h on this stretch, but it didn’t seem worth the risk given the heavy traffic and potential dangers from overtaking vehicles. I felt a bit nervous and couldn’t fully commit to a full-speed run. Still, it felt good to have checked it off the list.

Our next location, further out, turned out to be where we got the best content of the day. This spot was in a lush, green area with a cool, humid atmosphere—a complete contrast to the busy bypass. It was a truly beautiful place to be.

The road here was incredibly quiet, making it ideal for beginner skaters. It starts out mellow, gradually gets steeper, and ends near a lake with a slight runoff at the bottom of a hill. This kilometer-long stretch would be perfect for learning how to draft, tuck, and simply enjoy the sensation of being on a longboard.

We managed to film a raw run there, and I’m super happy with how it turned out. We clocked speeds of around 70km/h (I think it may have been faster, but I forgot to check the speed on my phone).

This spot was a lot of fun, and I really like the hill. I plan to organize more trips back to this location, with even more exploration of the area.

I didn’t want to get ahead of myself and focused on completing this initial trip to gauge what was achievable. Now that we’ve established this baseline, we can move forward and aim to produce even better content.

The team did an amazing job with filming. Kas did a great job driving the follow car, and I’m happy with how close he got without compromising my safety. Ed also captured some great footage at another spot, which I’ll share soon.

Here’s an unflattering photo of me:

This first trip was a great success, and it’s just the beginning of our skate and explore adventures. Stay tuned for more content and explorations of great longboarding spots.
