Exploring NYC’s Edge: A Day with Skateboarder Moose

The typical “Day In The Life” skate videos often feel too polished, with skaters seemingly on a pre-planned tour. We decided to ditch the script and explore the raw, unscripted side of skateboarding with Moose in Queens Village, offering a different perspective on New York City’s skate scene. Our goal was to show a real, authentic day, venturing beyond the usual Downtown Manhattan and North Brooklyn spots.

Most of us at Jenkem HQ usually stick to the well-known skate spots in Manhattan and North Brooklyn. Getting out to Queens Village was an adventure itself, as it’s not directly accessible by subway from Brooklyn. It’s a part of NYC that has a unique, old-school vibe, where you have to stay alert.

This video provides a glimpse into a day in the life of Moose, a skater from Queens Village, showcasing the area’s raw energy and his unique perspective on skateboarding. We found out that despite the chaotic environment, Moose is a grounded individual with a strong support system, suggesting a promising trajectory in the skateboarding world.

Unscripted Skateboarding in Queens Village

The “Hanging Out With…” series usually shows skaters in a planned setting, but we aimed for something different. We didn’t want a staged narrative, so we connected with Moose, a skater we didn’t know much about, and spent a day seeing what life was like on the edge of New York City. The trip to Queens Village felt like entering a different world, far removed from the usual skate parks and spots of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The video captures the raw, unpolished feel of the area. You’ll notice how different it is from the typical skate destinations, highlighting the unique challenges and opportunities that come with skating in a less-explored part of NYC. The streets are not perfectly smooth, and the spots aren’t always obvious. It’s about making the best of what’s available and finding creativity in the everyday. This is a glimpse into skateboarding culture that’s often missed.

A Different Kind of “Day in the Life”

The typical skate “Day in the Life” videos feel so structured and predictable: the skater wakes up, hits a couple of known spots, runs into friends, shares a beer, and fades out. For this segment, we wanted to capture something authentic and unplanned. This raw approach provides a more genuine look into the daily grind of a skater outside the usual city hotspots.

The video takes you beyond the usual skate spots, into a different neighborhood. The change of scenery is a breath of fresh air, providing a new perspective on the urban skateboarding scene. It shows that skateboarding isn’t just about the big parks and famous spots; it’s also about the individual experience and the community in each neighborhood. We wanted to highlight the fact that skateboarding culture thrives in unexpected places.

Moose: A Rising Skateboarder

Despite the chaotic backdrop of his daily life, we found Moose to be a grounded individual with a solid crew. It’s easy to see that this type of dedication and mindset is setting the stage for his success. He has a clear vision of what he wants to achieve in skateboarding, and a strong community that is there to support him. This combination of talent and community support is a powerful force in the skateboarding world.

We see him as a rising talent in the skateboarding world, with an unwavering dedication to his craft. He embodies the spirit of skateboarding culture – resilience and community, all while demonstrating impressive skill. The video serves as an introduction to a skater that is definitely worth keeping an eye on. This segment provides a glimpse into the personality and determination of Moose.

Conclusion

This “Hanging Out With…” episode was a deliberate move away from the planned nature of typical skate videos. The goal was to capture a real and authentic look at the life of Moose. We wanted to show how skaters like Moose find their place in the skateboarding world outside the spotlight. The video is a testament to the fact that skateboarding is not confined to the most popular spots but rather it is a community and culture found in the most unexpected places.

The experience in Queens Village reminded us that skateboarding is more than just tricks and parks; it’s a culture with diverse stories and perspectives. By showcasing Moose and his community, we aimed to highlight a different side of New York City and inspire others to see the beauty in the unplanned moments. This episode invites viewers to look at skateboarding from a broader perspective.
