DGK Skateboard Deck Review: A Three-Month Shred Test

Today, I’m diving deep into my experience with a DGK skateboard deck. Specifically, it’s the 8.125” “Bloom” deck. The size is my go-to, so this review will focus on the brand, not the dimensions. I’ve been riding this board for about three months – more than enough time to give you a solid, honest opinion on its performance. Let’s get into it.

First Impressions of the DGK Deck

I’ve always admired DGK, which stands for “Dirty Ghetto Kids,” for its unique style and message. The graphic of the “Bloom” deck immediately caught my attention. From the moment I started riding it, I was impressed. The weight felt perfect – light enough for easy tricks, yet sturdy enough to support my weight without any issues. It definitely felt like a board I would enjoy.

Concave Analysis

The concave on this DGK deck is mellow, which suits my flat feet perfectly. It’s ideal for skaters who are working on their flat ground skills. The shape allows for solid foot positioning. It’s a comfortable concave that provides a great feel overall.

How’s the Pop?

The pop is undoubtedly one of the most crucial factors when evaluating a new deck. And with DGK, the pop is truly exceptional. The board’s weight seems to contribute significantly to its responsiveness. It made popping my usual tricks incredibly easy, and I was seriously impressed.

The catch is also fantastic. My flip tricks have been noticeably cleaner and more consistent with this deck compared to my previous board. DGK definitely gets my approval for pop.

Durability Under Scrutiny

The durability of this DGK deck is outstanding. After three months of consistent skating, it still looks decent. I’m a big fan of fakie tricks, which means my tail takes a lot of abuse. As you can see, it’s getting sharp, but it’s lasting far longer than other brands I’ve skated.

As skateboarders, we know that decks won’t stay pristine forever. However, the durability of this DGK deck is among the best I’ve experienced. Its performance has remained consistent, with no noticeable drop in pop even after months of use.

Pros and Cons of the DGK Deck

The pros of this DGK deck are its exceptional durability, great flick and catch, substantial pop, comfortable concave, and the stylish graphics. It has genuinely been one of my favorite decks since getting back into skateboarding. It has even helped me relearn some tricks I thought were lost.

The only con I can come up with is that I broke my wrist while riding it, but that was purely due to my own mistake and had nothing to do with the skateboard itself. Remember, always make sure you have your legs under you and stretch well before attempting any tricks!

DGK vs. Other Brands

Compared to my previous Blind skateboard deck, the difference is night and day. I’ve had a much better experience with DGK. The amount of control I have with this board is a significant improvement.

With the Blind deck, I would often over-rotate tricks. The catch was just not there. It also developed a pressure crack under the wheel from a small impact within two months. Plus, being a fakie skater, the tail became razor-sharp quickly.

In short, I’ve put this DGK deck through much more, and it has remained intact and performed exceptionally well, making it incomparable to my previous experience with Blind. It’s certainly among the best skateboard decks I’ve ridden in a while.

Final Verdict on the DGK Skateboard Deck

After three months of consistent riding, I can confidently say that DGK makes an awesome skateboard. I’d highly recommend this brand to any skater, regardless of their skill level. Typically, I look forward to getting a new deck when my current one starts to wear out, but my experience with this DGK board makes me hesitant to switch to another brand.

While I do need to keep trying out different brands for future reviews, I can say that this will definitely not be my last time riding a DGK, and I’m eager to try another one soon.
