Shop Talk at the Fucking Awesome Store in NYC

We’re back with another episode of Shop Talk, this time hitting up the Fucking Awesome store in Manhattan’s East Village, a prime spot to grab a new board and spark up before a skate session. The usual suspects were around, joints were lit, and the conversation flowed freely.

With 2023 well underway, we were curious to get the local East Village skaters’ takes on last year’s Skater of the Year (SOTY) race, the resurgence of some skate companies, and their New Year’s resolutions. We want to thank the Fucking Awesome store and its staff for allowing us to hang out all day and chat with customers right in front of their shop.

If you’re enjoying this series and want us to visit your local skate shop or park to interview the regulars, just get us a plane ticket, and convince us it’ll be worthwhile. We’re probably down for it.

The crew discussed a range of topics, from the most hyped skaters of 2022 to the state of the skateboarding industry. The laid-back atmosphere of the Fucking Awesome store created the perfect setting for an honest conversation about the culture.

Last year’s SOTY race was a hot topic, with many sharing their opinions on who they thought deserved the title and why. There was also talk about companies that have made a comeback, showcasing the cyclical nature of the skateboarding world. In addition to the industry talk, the crew shared some of their New Year’s resolutions, adding a personal touch to the conversation.

The Fucking Awesome store in the East Village isn’t just a place to buy skate gear; it’s a hub for the local skate community. It’s where you can meet friends, talk shop, and start your session. Our time there highlighted the importance of these spaces in fostering the unique culture of skateboarding. The “Shop Talk” series aims to capture the essence of these local scenes, and this episode at the Fucking Awesome store is no exception.

The team behind this video, Larry Lanza, Alexis Castro, and Max Seeger, have worked hard to provide an engaging glimpse into the skate culture. They captured the relaxed yet passionate atmosphere of the store, offering viewers an insight into the minds of skaters in the East Village. The series allows fans to get a sense of what’s happening on the ground level, connecting with the real skaters who live and breathe the sport every day. This episode, like the others, contributes to the goal of shining a light on the culture of skateboarding.

If you are part of a local scene that has a unique story, reach out and tell us about it. We are always looking for great places to visit and people to talk to. We aim to show the diversity of skateboarding and all the different communities that make it great. The future of Shop Talk depends on you, the fans and the people in local shops and parks around the world.
