100% Love for the Homies: A French Longboarding Crew’s Journey

The saying that “French is the language of love” always seemed a bit abstract, but a recent longboarding video titled “100% Love For My Homies,” featuring the crew CINQ/A from Southern France, is making a compelling case for it. This video isn’t just about impressive tricks; it’s a testament to the camaraderie and genuine affection within this talented group of friends. The unique blend of photo collages, a well-traveled team, and a focus on shared experiences truly embodies the spirit of “homie love” and makes it relatable for longboarders around the world.

This crew showcases not only their incredible talent on the board but also a deep appreciation for their friendships and the local skate scene. They explore untapped skate spots across France, conquer impressive stair sets, and serve as a reminder to value the bonds with your friends.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, it’s a perfect time to appreciate the love we share with our close friends. Take a break from the usual holiday hustle and immerse yourself in the positive vibes of this video. After watching, check out our Q&A with filmmaker Quentin Larrede for an inside look into the crew’s dynamic and inspirations.

Q&A with CINQ/A Filmmaker Quentin Larrede

Since French is known as the language of love, can you share a pick-up line in French that you’d use on the locals?
“Si un grain de sable pouvait dire je t’aime, je t’offrirais le Sahara.” (If a grain of sand could say I love you, I would offer you the Sahara).

What’s the story behind the name CINQ/A?
The name comes from our high school days when we were five friends. If we weren’t at our local skatepark, we would spend our weekends at the same apartment. So, “CINQ” represents the five of us, and “A” is for the first letter of the “apartment.” It’s not very complex, but we liked the way it sounded, so we stuck with it!

Who is the first artist featured on the video soundtrack?
That would be Forth Wanderers. I asked the crew for music suggestions, and Tylo, the first skater in the video, shared many great artists with a small following on Soundcloud. I felt that this particular band’s style was a great fit for his skating.

You mentioned the crew is getting older. What are some of the unique career paths among your friends?
Within CINQ/A, there are three main career paths: some members work as skate teachers, others are in audiovisual post-production, and then there are those who are unemployed (laughs). It’s a varied mix!

What would you consider to be the most underrated skate destination in France?
In my totally subjective opinion, our hometown, Mont-de-Marsan. There are some crazy spots there, such as a 14-stair set with a perfect rail in front of a large church, complete with crosses along the handrail. It’s never been skated before. It would be awesome to see someone shred that spot. A picture of that would definitely make an amazing magazine cover! Plus, it’s close to the beach and Spain, making it a great all-around destination.

Are there any places you are itching to visit that the crew hasn’t been to yet?
We’re really keen on discovering the eastern part of Europe. We’re currently discussing our next destination, and Hungary is at the top of the list.

This is a favorite question for filmmakers – how many drinks does it take before the camera gets too shaky?
The skater’s legs usually start shaking before my camera does, but if I had to guess, I’d say around 15 cans of San Miguel!

You visited Bilbao, which is known for the Guggenheim and architecture. Among all the cities you’ve skated, which one has the best skate architecture?
Marseille, in my opinion. The flat ground is great throughout the city. There are also plenty of downhills leading to the harbor and unique spots where you can film clips, hang out, and watch the homies skate or chat with locals. It’s a place where everyone spends time outdoors and interacts with each other, and I think the architecture encourages this kind of social dynamic.

If I were to visit you in the South of France, what three things would you insist that we do?
First, we’d go skating in Spain (Irun, San Sebastian), picking up some cheaper tobacco on the way. During our travels, we’d let you shoot passers-by with water guns. After that, we can either grab drinks and make fun of surfers in Hossegor or have a big BBQ at Angel’s barn with all of our friends.

Could you recommend a few local artists?
Definitely check out “Les Boulenvrac.” They’re a punk rock band that’s been around since 1998. The guitarist is Lucas’s father, and our friend Fred, who owns the local skate shop, used to be a member as well. If you see them live, watch out for the infamous sausage throw into the crowd!

I also want to mention two other artists from the video, “LeDouble” and “Kyana,” who are both part of the French new wave rap scene.

Why do you feel such strong affection for your friends?
I spend most of my time with them and I’m never bored. It’s important to tell your homies you love them, so it’s 100% love for my homies!
